The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Gritty and Dramatic REboot is happening

Last updated on September 8, 2020

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is getting flipped turned upside down. One of the greatest sitcoms of all time is getting rebooted as a one-house serialized drama titled BEL-AIR. NBC’s Peacock streaming service has given the show a 2 season order. Will Smith is one of the show’s producers.

The show is based on a fan film called BEL-AIR, which you can watch the trailer for below, by Morgan Cooper’. Cooper will direct, cowrite and serve as one of the executive producers. Chris Collins (The WireJohn Wick 3) will be showrunner as well as cowriter and co-executive producer

Here’s the official synopsis for the show:

Set in modern-day America, BEL-AIR is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, BEL-AIR will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.
